Where to go on the Algarve coast
The Algarve runs 150 km along the south of Portugal. Each harbour is the best base for something different.
Lagos and Ponta da Piedade
In the west, Lagos is the base for the sea stacks and grottos of Ponta da Piedade. Small boats and kayaks can go inside the caves, and catamarans and private yachts cruise the coast.
Albufeira
Albufeira Marina is the closest big harbour to Benagil cave and the dolphin grounds, with jet skis, parasailing, fishing and yacht charters.
Vilamoura
Vilamoura Marina is home to our own Vilamoura Watersports Centre: jet skis, parasailing, banana boats, wakeboarding, dolphins, Benagil trips and fishing, all in one place.
Benagil cave
The most famous sea cave in Portugal, reached by boat from Albufeira, Vilamoura or Lagos. Small boats go inside when the sea is calm.
Dolphin watching
Common and bottlenose dolphins live off the Algarve all year. Trips run 1.5 to 3 hours, often combined with the caves.
